Voting Dates and Deadlines

Important Dates

  • Voters can request absentee ballot applications beginning 40 days before the next election.
  • The Clerk's office must receive your application at least five days before the election.
Absentee ballots received by mail must be postmarked before Election Day to count.

12/24/2009 First day absentee ballot applications are accepted.
1/5/2010 Last day to register to vote.
1/6/2010 First day of grace-period registration and voting.
1/11/2010 First day of early voting.
1/26/2010 Last day of grace-period registration and voting.
1/28/2010 Last day military and overseas voters may make application for ballot and send out ballot.
1/28/2010 Last day of early voting.
1/29/2010 - 2/1/2010 In-person absentee voting at the Clerk’s downtown Chicago office only.
2/1/2010 Last day voted mail absentee ballots can be postmarked for acceptance by the Clerk’s office.
